There Is No One Like You
All of our days, You are our hope
From our first breath, beyond the grave
Who is like You? None can compare
Refuge and Strength, and mighty to save

So, as for me, I will have hope
I will declare Your righteous Name
Singing the song of Your renown
Faithful and true, sovereign and strong
There is no one, there is no one
There is no one like You

Some people say You are not there
When I cry out, You will not hear
O mighty God, come to my aid
Let them all see that You are still near

So, as for me, I will have hope
I will declare Your righteous Name
Singing the song of Your renown
Faithful and true, sovereign and strong
There is no one, there is no one
There is no one like You

Though I have seen trouble and pain
You will restore my life again
Up from the depths, You'll lift me up
Bringing me joy and comfort again

So, as for me, I will have hope
I will declare Your righteous Name
Singing the song of Your renown
Faithful and true, sovereign and strong

So, as for me, I will have hope
I will declare Your righteous Name
Singing the song of Your renown
Faithful and true, sovereign and strong
There is no one, there is no one
There is no one like You
There is no one, there is no one
There is no one like You
Song Notes
Phil's comments on this song:

The Psalms are so full of honest, genuine expressions of human emotion. That is why I love to read them and why I love to write songs based on their text. This song is based on the text of Psalm 71. There is so much within this passage. If I had tried to use all of the text, the song would have been very long. So, I tried to pull out some of the major themes and form the song around those.

The first verse focuses on the truth that from the time we are formed in the womb and draw our first breath, until the day we breathe our last, and beyond, God is our hope. He is the only true place of refuge and strength. There is absolutely no one like Him.

The second verse draws attention to those who are the enemies of God and all who call on Him. People will tell us that there is no God or that He will not hear us when we call on Him. The Psalmist calls on God to put his accusers and enemies to shame. He calls on God to make haste and come to his aid, that the accusers may see His hand at work.

The final verse recognizes that this life is often filled with trouble and pain, but God will ultimately restore all things. He will revive and restore our lives and, even in the midst of strife, bring us joy and comfort. It is a great promise and a reminder that God is always near and that He never forgets those who call on Him.

The chorus is an attempt to express what the psalm declares in 71:14-16. “But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.”

What a great truth is expressed in verse 15. Though we try to tell of God’s deeds of salvation all day long, in the end, it exceeds our knowledge and comprehension. How great the Father’s love for us and what riches He has given us in Jesus Christ. There is truly no one like Him.
