It's You
There's a longing in my heart to see
The One Who came and gave His life for me
To gaze upon the beauty of Your face
And know the fullness of Your love and grace
To know the depth of Your mercy
And glimpse the height of Your glory

You’re my life, O Jesus
You’re my joy
It’s You, it’s You
You’re my treasure
You’re my life, O Jesus
You’re my joy
It’s You, it’s You
It’s You

Help me, O my Jesus, help me see
The wonder of the joy that waits for me
The pleasure of a life that’s truly free
Delighting in the One Who longs for me
To seek for You with a hunger
And dwell with You forever

You’re my life, O Jesus
You’re my joy
It’s You, it’s You
You’re my treasure
You’re my life, O Jesus
You’re my joy
It’s You, it’s You
It’s You

I praise You, Lord, for the joy You bring
The reason why my heart can sing
My treasure, Lord, my everything
It’s You

You’re my life, O Jesus
You’re my joy
It’s You, it’s You
You’re my treasure
You’re my life, O Jesus
You’re my joy
It’s You, it’s You
It’s You
Song Notes
Phil's comments on this song:

We were created to know and worship and enjoy God forever. There is no greater joy to be found than to treasure Christ above all things – to be satisfied in Him. In Psalm 27:4, David says, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” David realized that the highest thing he could pursue or attain in this lifetime is to dwell in the presence of the Lord all the days of His life. Everything else paled in comparison to this.

Christ came to bring us life – abundant life – life overflowing with the joy of the Lord. There are times when I get a glimpse or a taste of glory and wonder of God. In those moments, I am overcome with His love and grace, and all things fall into their proper perspective. However, as I am so prone to do, my attention is quickly turned aside to other things. So, rather than dwelling in the fullness of God, I become self-absorbed or preoccupied with burdens and distractions of life, forgetting that I can experience the presence of God in the midst of every detail of life. I return to experiencing life on my terms and in my strength. It is a constant battle.

I pray that God would help me see the wonder of the joy that is right in front of me. All I need to do is just open my eyes and behold it. Delighting in the One Who longs for me is that path of freedom. Trials, hardships, and pain will always be present until the day we find our final rest in Christ. Until that day, we can know His joy, His peace, and His promised presence, for those who trust in Christ, in the midst of the victories and trials of life.

This song is a declaration that, for the believer, Christ is our life, our joy, and our greatest treasure. And when our gaze is turned aside to earthly things or consumed by a perspective that is not eternal, there should be an aching and longing in our lives until our gaze and perspective is once again focused on our glorious Savior. As C.S. Lewis said, let’s not be like ignorant children, who are satisfied with making mud pies in the slums because we cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. Let’s not be easily pleased. May we find great joy and delight in our God!
