That is really cool! I was listening to the preview and I asked Tyler if he knew who that was singing. When I told him it was Uncle Phil he said, "Oh I can hear his voice now!" Then his new parakeet, Buddy, started singing. We think Buddy likes the new album! :)

I love how God works.

Earlier this week I was praying about a decision I need to make. I was wrestling with selfishness, pride and legalism, and wanting to do it right. Your message was posted on Feb 29th, but I didn't read it until today. But this messase reaffirmed the exact same message I heard yesterday on the radio. We need rest from work and we need rest from the noise. We can't get that rest unless we intentionally take it.

God didn't need to rest, but He rested. And He commands us to do the same, because He knows we wouldn't think of it on our own. Because He loves us and knows what we need.

Too often I find myself taking pride in the talents offered to God. And then I remember what Francis Chan said about this--it is God who should be glorified for these good deeds, not us. And who are we to be robbing God of His glory? So keep on giving, keep on performing good works, maximize your talents for God but when that feeling of pride creeps in, remind yourself to not rob God of His glory!

Thanks Phil. What a great reminder to me. I always say that "I" am my worst enemy. I know that many times I give up full control in many areas of my life only to quickly take the control back when things begin to look really good and feel really good, I decide to take "it" (whatever the situation is) on all by myself. Learning to allow Him to do good works THROUGH me will be an ongoing battle. It is reassuring to know that even "Bible people" made the same selfish mistakes and somehow through all of our errors He continues to love us - that's a hard idea for me to wrap my mind around sometimes.

Very empowering word especially for our times Phil. Check out the web site for this Phoenix non-profit I'm involved in. Until I started directing this I'd forgotten how so many people right here don't have the basics in life even regular food in the inner city. Over 1,000 from our school families waited in line for food last weekend and patiently.
Yet, many or simple and focused without high expectation and often more thankful then many I've observed involved in suburban churches. Thanks for sharing your heart and experiences.
